Skin fillers

Wrinkles and facial lines appear as the result of ageing, muscle activity and genetic predisposition. In addition, sun exposure, smoking and other factors contribute to the development of wrinkles.
As our skin mature, our skin loses its volume as important components such as fat, collagen and hyaluronic acid that keep our skin looking young, supple and healthy diminishes. This volume loss can be replaced by using collagen or hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Dermal filler treatments temporarily smooth folds and wrinkles by restoring facial volume. Dermal fillers are used for nose-to-mouth and mouth-corner lines, frown lines and other lines and furrows in the face. They are also used for lip contouring and fullness.
We use hyaluronic acid fillers (such as Restylane®, Varioderm®, Juvederm® and Teosyal®) instead of collagen, as they are better tolerated, do not need skin testing and longer lasting.
Hyaluronic acid fillers come in different thickness. The thicker the filler is, the deeper it is injected into the skin. This helps to smooth fine lines and plump out deep lines.

How long does it take to work?
Results from the treatment can be seen immediately.

How long does the treatment last for?
Dermal fillers are gradually broken down, which take between 6-12 months, but in some instances they may last up to 18 months.

Are any pre-treatment tests required?
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers do not require pre treatment tests.

What happens after the treatment wears off?
Over time, the substances are broken down by the body’s enzyme systems and pass out of the body in the natural way. Your skin will gradually return to what it looked like before the treatment, unless you have a top-up treatment. Treatment with Skin Fillers can typically be carried out and topped up indefinitely.

Does the treatment hurt?
We routinely apply local anaesthetic cream about 20 minutes prior to the treatment as a pain relief. Treatment for the more sensitive areas like the lips usually require local anaesthetic nerve block (similar to what is used by dentists).

Will there be any side effects from the treatment?
There may be some localized bruising, slight swelling or redness at the site of injection which will fade after a couple of days. You will normally be able to return to your usual daily activities after treatment. Swelling on the lip may take up to a week to settle.
