Wrinkle Reduction (Botox®)
The appearance of wrinkles and facial lines are attributed to the ageing process, muscle activity and genetic predisposition. Additional factors such as sun exposure and smoking further contribute to the development of wrinkles. As we get older, these lines become deeper and more pronounced through constant use.
Botulinum toxin A injection (Botox®, Vistabel®, Xeomin®, Azzalure®, Dysport®) is probably the most popular cosmetic medical treatment for facial lines and wrinkles in the UK and can be used successfully in combination with other skin rejuvenation treatments. It relaxes the muscles that caused those lines to form. This softens the lines and wrinkles that are formed by muscle activity such as frown lines between eyebrows, crow's feet around the eyes and horizontal forehead lines.
We also use Botulinum toxin A for reduction of underarm excessive sweating.
What happens during the treatment?
A tiny amount of Botulinum Toxin A is injected into the treatment area using a very small needle so discomfort is minimal. Depending on the area being treated, there may be a series of injections.
Is it painful?
Most people only experience mild discomfort. No local anaesthetic is usually needed, but this can be arranged if requested.
Is there any side effect from the treatment?
You may experience a slight swelling and redness immediately after, which quickly fades.
Will I notice a difference immediately?
No. The effect starts to work in about 4-5 days, with the greatest seen after about 2-3 weeks.
